About Me:
I am a dyslexic dyslexia teacher. I used to be a musician a looooong time ago but I gave it up to go back to school. Moved to Scotland a couple years ago and now have my own dyslexia consultancy, "Dyslexia Pathways". Dyslexia think unique abilities not disabilitiy. I am a person who is very happy to be dyslexic. I don't want a cure, I don't want the lable disability. What made my dyslexia a disability was an education system that didn't recognise my learning style nor my learning strengths.

Have you been assessed as being dyslexic:
Yes I think I must be the most assessed person in history. I was assessed by an educationsl pshchologist at uni. Then an occupational psychologist when I applied for Access to Work funds. Then when I was taking my dyslexia teaching diploma I was used time and again, quite willingly, as a test subject for other teachers on my course.
Are you working or at college etc
I am setting up my own business right now. I am hoping to set up a dyslexia focused social enterprise that will deliver dyslexia services to adults here in Fife. I have now set up Dyslexia Pathways as a social firm run by dyslexics for dyslexics. We are now a fully incorporated Community Interest Company.

What a fantastic event and opportunity to meet with so many brilliant social entrepreneurs. The weather may have been cold and wet but the welcome at New lanark was was warm and friendly.

A great big well done to The Wooden Spoon (Dundee International Women`s Centre) winning both the Dragons` Den and the Audience prizes. The Dragon's Den was certainly the highlight of the day for me. Ok Dyslexia Pathways didn't win the event but I certainly learned some lessons from all the other contenders tha… Continue

Right now I am doing an e-shot and mail shot to attract more business.

I am going to a social enterprise ceilidh in a couple of weeks t… Continue

A good day

Today I have been working at Edinburgh University training students how to use assistive technology. Felt good to be teaching again and with none of the paper work hassles that teachers have.

My new website is going very well I have completed a few more pages and now looking to expand it with a couple more pages.

It's great to know there's a place to talk about dyslexia. Sometimes it feel like I'm the only dyslexic out there. Thanks for making the site:D

Thanks Stephen for your note.
Glad to be part of this group. Can't say I am happy to be dyslexic, but I'm OK with it.. Just happy to have been diagnosed and not being labeled. Thanks, Joan
