My company, Dyslexia Pathways has become a fully incorporated Community Interest Company social enterprise in July this year.
We won a contract to supply dyslexia support services to a university in Edinburgh and have some work coming through now on a regular basis. There is the prospect of more work coming through in the near future from other organisations.
Right now I am doing an e-shot and mail shot to attract more business.
I am going to a social enterprise ceilidh in a couple of weeks t…

Today I have been working at Edinburgh University training students how to use assistive technology. Felt good to be teaching again and with none of the paper work hassles that teachers have.
My new website is going very well I have completed a few more pages and now looking to expand it with a couple more pages.

I completed the tender for the Scottish governent dyslexia awarness traiing contract. Now all I have to do is wait and see how it goes. I really don't expect to win this but going through the tender process was a great experience and I will get feed back on how I did as well. This will make completing my next tender easier.
I have more training soon on a course that will enable me to deliver an accredited dyslexia training course for professionals working with dyslexics. I can't wait for this t…

Things are all going pretty well still. I have a meeting with my web site developers this Friday and I am hoping to have a few web pages up and running in a couple of weeks.
Made a decision not to go down the setting up a charity route and will be setting up a Community Interest Company instead.
Last week I was sent an invitation to tender for a government to deliver dyslexia awareness training to government departments. Ok its only a small contract but its for three years. I have high hopes f…

I am trying very hard to get my head around a few things recently. Like the idea of having a more business like image and the idea of including my qualifications in the footer of any letters and e-mails I send. The business thing is wierd because I have always been a bit of a maverick in any organisation I have worked in and also maybe a bit of an outsider. I guess I have never been totaly comfortable with systems imposed on me from employers. Example, when I first began working in my last job I…

Things are going well with my new dyslexia services company, "Dyslexia Pathways". I have go my first client for a dyslexia assessment, I am in negotiation with the Job Centre for a contract to work with people signing on who are or may be dyslexic. Myself and my company were mentioned in several newspaper articles here in Scotland. Lottery funding is being applied for on my behalf by two interested parties with the same vision as I.

As I said in my introduction to this site I was diagnosed with dyslexia and non verbal learning disability last summer. Last night I decided to reread my assessment report and only found the psychologist mentioned dyslexia last in his report. There is no mention of non learning disability. He told me this when I went back to see him after doing the assessment. In the report he makes recommendations:
1. take a memory course as well as read aloud.
2. To improve my perceptual organization read com…

I received a letter in the post today from a charitable trust I had applied for a grant from. The grant was to pay for a new multi media laptop and some dyslexia teaching software. The total cost of which was £2200. I saw the letter on the floor by the door and just couldn't even stoop down to pick it up. I left it on the floor whilst I went and did something else. I put it off again and again. I was just worried how I would take the news if it were not good. I openeed the letter slowly and peek…

Ok everyone in SDSNDland. Life is quiet here in Yorkshire later so there has been nothing to report. Nothing except that I have been having some fun with the Dr K-whatsits brain and site training games that we got last weekend. I have actually discovered something pretty interesting. That is that as the week goes on my brain and eye age get higher. Now that wouldn't be quite so worrying if the change wasn't so dramatic. And it wouldn't be so worrying if my job allowed me to be crap towards the e…
