Social Enterprise Ceilidh (KAYLEE)

What a fantastic event and opportunity to meet with so many brilliant social entrepreneurs. The weather may have been cold and wet but the welcome at New lanark was was warm and friendly. A great big well done to The Wooden Spoon (Dundee International Women`s Centre) winning both the Dragons` Den and the Audience prizes. The Dragon's Den was certainly the highlight of the day for me. Ok Dyslexia Pathways didn't win the event but I certainly learned some lessons from all the other contenders tha… Continue

hellay there

My company, Dyslexia Pathways has become a fully incorporated Community Interest Company social enterprise in July this year. We won a contract to supply dyslexia support services to a university in Edinburgh and have some work coming through now on a regular basis. There is the prospect of more work coming through in the near future from other organisations. Right now I am doing an e-shot and mail shot to attract more business. I am going to a social enterprise ceilidh in a couple of weeks t… Continue

working hard

I completed the tender for the Scottish governent dyslexia awarness traiing contract. Now all I have to do is wait and see how it goes. I really don't expect to win this but going through the tender process was a great experience and I will get feed back on how I did as well. This will make completing my next tender easier. I have more training soon on a course that will enable me to deliver an accredited dyslexia training course for professionals working with dyslexics. I can't wait for this t… Continue

going ok

Things are all going pretty well still. I have a meeting with my web site developers this Friday and I am hoping to have a few web pages up and running in a couple of weeks. Made a decision not to go down the setting up a charity route and will be setting up a Community Interest Company instead. Last week I was sent an invitation to tender for a government to deliver dyslexia awareness training to government departments. Ok its only a small contract but its for three years. I have high hopes f… Continue

business image

I am trying very hard to get my head around a few things recently. Like the idea of having a more business like image and the idea of including my qualifications in the footer of any letters and e-mails I send. The business thing is wierd because I have always been a bit of a maverick in any organisation I have worked in and also maybe a bit of an outsider. I guess I have never been totaly comfortable with systems imposed on me from employers. Example, when I first began working in my last job I… Continue

Ok its only a 3 month project but it will be cool and I will actually get paid if it is accepted. I may also be doing some training for another IT company on assistive technology and dys… Continue

Wooo hoooooo

I received a letter in the post today from a charitable trust I had applied for a grant from. The grant was to pay for a new multi media laptop and some dyslexia teaching software. The total cost of which was £2200. I saw the letter on the floor by the door and just couldn't even stoop down to pick it up. I left it on the floor whilst I went and did something else. I put it off again and again. I was just worried how I would take the news if it were not good. I openeed the letter slowly and peek… Continue

progress progress

Since my last post here things have been going pretty well. I have a name for my business, "Dyslexia Pathways". Had two great meetings that will eventually lead to new projects here in Fife. My applications for charity funding are going well. Looks like one charity will give me over £2000 for a new laptop and dyslexia software. My business plan is complete and now I have to put together some marketing material to send to training companies and employers offering dyslexia services. Looks like I… Continue

Hi

I guess I started this place outta frustration. Since I moved to Scotland I am suprised at the total lack of resources there are available here for dyslexic in the work place or trying to find work. In my last job I ran the dyslexia department in a London College. I am not really allowed to emntion the name of the college here for reasons that will become clear later. But when I was made redundant my college, in all its wisdom, kept the laptop that I got from Access to Work along with the softw… Continue
